Common Corn Thresher Problems & Quick Fixes

Any corn thresher will need troubleshooting now and then, but most issues take only a few minutes to diagnose.

1. Incomplete shelling (grain left on the cob): often low rotor speed or worn blades. First check that voltage is adequate and the belt is not slipping, then inspect blades/rotor and replace if worn.

2. Jamming (won’t feed or clogs): usually corn that is too wet or overloading. Feed in small batches and clear cobs/debris; if it jams, stop and cut power before clearing.

3. No output: check the outlet for cob blockage, whether the cleaning fan runs, and whether the motor is turning.

4. Abnormal vibration or noise: check for loose bolts and worn, under-greased bearings; tighten and lubricate.

5. Motor overheating or smoking: stop immediately and check for overload, unstable voltage or a seized bearing.
